Are you being called forth to an even greater challenge?

This week I want to share something a bit different with you; a personal opinion of what happens once you’ve gone through a coaching program like ours at The Coaching Fellowship. Over a period of 6 months, our fellows work hard with their coach to understand their motivations, get underneath what might have been holding them back, been courageous to change, and built a deep well of resilience. These are tools, behaviors, ways of being that we hope will stay with our fellows a lifetime.

Self Actualization

In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs he called this ‘self actualization,’ and whereby he claimed that self knowledge and work was only possible if the most fundamental and basic needs”: esteem, friendship and love, security, and physical needs are met. Portrayed in the shape of a pyramid with the largest, most fundamental needs at the bottom and the need for self-actualization at the top. Self-actualization is all about striving for and reaching one’s full potential. This is what motivates us at The Coaching Fellowship; we want to support growth, inner knowledge and living one’s full potential.

Moving from “I” to “We”

And, with all that said — in my opinion I think something else is going on here too. When we work on ourselves, mastering our desires, and fears toward the realization of our potential, we open the possibility of transcendence. Being part of something bigger than ourselves. I believe once we have reached the pinnacle of Maslow’s theory (self actualization), the pyramid inverts and a 6th motivational level emerges. This level is infinite, without end, where we have moved irrevocably from “I” to “we”. From then on, we exist to help every living thing: people, animals, plants, the oceans, the air we breathe reach its full potential.

Called Forth

Throughout my time as a coach, I’ve witnessed hundreds of people, from all walks of life move far beyond their own potential. It’s a beautiful space we are being called forth into. I believe it’s the destiny of all of us. Moving toward helping people and our planet live into its potential. Being even more awake, ready to heal, ready to provide for, ready to give and ready to love.

You’ve likely heard me preach numerous times, that what I believe the world needs is an increase in the level of human consciousness, this is what I mean by that. Take time to invest in yourself, work hard to be at your best. And know that at some point you will ultimately be called to move beyond; called forth to an even greater challenge. We are waiting for you.
